Our Review
Nolan at His Most Thoughtful
Christopher Nolan turns his attention to artificial intelligence in what might be his most intellectually ambitious film since Interstellar. The Last Algorithm is not an action-packed AI thriller but rather a philosophical meditation on consciousness, free will, and what it means to be alive.
Saoirse Ronan delivers a remarkable performance as Dr. Maya Chen, whose creation forces her to question everything she believes about intelligence and personhood. The film treats AI with nuance and respect, avoiding the tired tropes of killer robots or benevolent digital gods.
Technical Brilliance
True to form, Nolan shot key sequences on IMAX 70mm film, and the difference is visible. The server room sequences are hypnotic, with practical lighting effects creating an almost organic feel to the technology. The sound design deserves special mention - the subtle audio cues that suggest the AI's presence are masterfully crafted.
