Our Review
A Genre-Defying Masterpiece
Bong Joon-ho follows up his Oscar-winning Parasite with another genre-bending masterwork that defies easy categorization. Echoes of Tomorrow is simultaneously a noir thriller, a sci-fi drama, and a pointed commentary on how societies choose to remember and forget their histories.
Song Kang-ho is magnetic as the weary archivist Joon-sik, bringing warmth and gravitas to a character haunted by both personal and collective memories. The ensemble cast is uniformly excellent, with Lupita Nyong'o delivering a standout performance as a journalist uncovering the conspiracy.
Bong's Vision
The near-future Seoul is rendered with stunning production design that feels just one step beyond our present reality. Bong's signature tonal shifts between humor and tension are on full display, and the film builds to a devastating climax that will have audiences discussing its implications for weeks.
